Let's ban all books!

Sarcasm aside, this is a sad state of affairs.

But on the more entertaining side I found this-

So at least everyone is getting a little flack from this book banning frenzy in the country right now.

Hello, it's the author of Lucky here! Thank you for the support. I didn't hear about this farce until I stumbled on to your blog, so thanks for raising awareness. I've contacted some relevant organisations in Florida who may be able to assist, and I'll keep you updated on any developments. I'll also keep my myspace blog up to speed with any news. Fight the power!

Local news is pretty bad. Actually, the national news is even worse: after the local news, we watched NBC national news. After the first twelve minutes of obligatory "hard news," the newscast devolved into a string of fluff: a report on Brian Williams's aging father, a piece on the Dixie Chicks, and a human interest story on a skydiver whose shoot didn't open comprised the last half of "the news."
As far as the challenged book goes, what can happen if people don't fight back is this: DCPS will take the "easy" route. They already have little/no ethical position to begin with, so silencing an annoying parent by removing a book is no big deal to them. However, for those of us who place a value on literature and art, one book banned from a library is a significant step backward. Jacksonville has such a rich literary history that remains largely ignored (James Weldon Johnson and Zora Neale Hurston spring to mind immediately) that it would be a shame if ours was a legacy of censorship.

What is going on down there in J-ville? First the vagina monologues business, and now this???

Jacksonville is lucky to have people like you that are outraged and will fight to correct this madness. But the scary thing is that those "offended" often fight harder. Don't let it happen, Jax!

As a member of the American Library Association, I will support your battle to keep this book on the shelves, should it come to blows. But in light of the fact that you couldn't find any more information on this than what you heard/saw on the local news, I wonder if it isn't just another attempt by the local media to create a negative image of nearly everything good and sound that the world has to offer. I hate local news.
