you know in the interview (which was terrific) he didnt mention gavin stevens. i wonder if phil was the inspiration for him. if you havent read Intruder in the Dust, you havent read Faulkner.
my favorite character in all literature is Lucas Beauchamp.

I had to read Intruder for a college class and I liked it…almost like a boy’s adventure story, like a response to Mark Twain. A dark Hardy Boys.
