“I’d be capable of knocking down a vase” – brilliant. Reading in order to compare oneself to the characters seems like a very Walser thing to do. What book is this from?
I yanked it from Google Books, but I first read it in Masquerade in Other Stories (although I think I yanked it from the NYRB collection of his short fiction).
