This is SUCH a great painting, as well as the other one mentioned above. What a time to have lived in, so many fascinating people that JSS hung out with — Henry James, Oscar Wilde, etc. And today is Sargent’s birthday! I actually find this painting really haunting, which possibly shows what a great piece of art it actually is.
