This reminds me of Willis Barnstone’s book about Borges (‘With Borges on an Ordinary Evening in Buenos Aires’), in which he recounts an episode of them taking a leak and him (Willis) noticing that Borges had peed all over his shoes. As they were leaving he told Borges his shoes were covered with mud and then bent down and wiped them off.
