Whoa. Some reallllly interesting work. If you haven’t yet, take a trip over to the Regina Gallery site and scroll through the Selected Works area and read the English titles… well past the black-and-white “untitleds” in the Spring series, you get back into some interesting water colors and acrylics… There’s one called “Birth of Dollar” [2008 acrylic on canvas] that seems to sum up this artist’s point of view… um… not that I don’t have my own criticisms of the current, er, state of the world, but — this guy sounds a one-note drum: in the “Dollar” canvas Pepperstein pretty much takes the gloves off and gives us [well, gives this viewer, anyway] an “equation” that feels quite extreme — anti-Semitic, anti-Christian, uber-misogynistic, anti-capitalist/west/American, anti-technology, well… pretty much an Islamo-Patrio-Centric rage-against-the-west… some intriguing stuff… created a much more intriguing context for viewing the “Hangover” piece… [Does he blame Vodka for the state of the world today…?] Thanks, as ever, for sharing, Mr. Turner.
