  1. Fantastic grabs. Did they cost as much as they appear to (or were they found in some obscure corner of a used book shop)?

    1. They were found in obscure cracks of a used bookshop. They “cost” about 8 dollars total, but I have book credit out the wazoo there, so the cost is really nothing I guess. I’ve read Intruder before (I have a handsome new Vintage edition) but I couldn’t pass on this Penguin edition, which is from Australia, unless I can’t read a colophon properly. The Crack Up is great so far—I haven’t seen an edition of the book like this before (although admittedly I haven’t looked for one), which collects a ton of letters and his notebooks and other ephemera. I have no plans to read the Hawthorne anytime soon, but I didn’t own it and couldn’t pass on such a lovely cover. I’m addicted to these heavy stock midcentury paperbacks with minimalist covers.
