I think the kid is the artist’s kid, whose head the kid is holding. Jung tried to make Freudian psychology nice and sanitary, whereas Freud was into the sinew, juice, and gristle of the human mind. Charlie Chaplin said that he did not believe in morality, because morality was what people expected others to observe.
