  1. Reblogged this on Old Road Apples and commented:
Sometimes the passing on an icon is referred to as “the end of the era”–with the death of Christopher Lee, I’m forced to wonder: what is greater than an era? An epoch? How fitting, how fortunate, that the king of b-movies, in his final years, was prominently featured in two of the most successful film franchises of all time, as Star Wars’ Count Dooku and, especially, as the White Wizard Saruman in Stephen Jackson’s Tolkien adaptations. Lee was so powerful as that latter that he will be forever associated with that character–and, more telling, the character with him. (As a friend of mine emailed me over a decade ago: “Best. Saruman. Casting. Ever.” What a life. What a career. What a talent. What a gentleman!
