That underlying bass synth is killer. “drukQs” is so underrated.

“Avril 14th” seems to have this second life, where people really recognize Richard James as a composer and interpret it. (“Alberto Balsalm” too).

I’d agree w/ that. “Icct Hedral” was redone(?) by Philip Glass on the “Donkey Rhubarb” EP (WAP 63). James has always had a split dynamic that he’s able to balance in his music: High & low culture, the connection to Stockhausen, Glass, Satie, etc. It shined thru on “drukQs” where it might have been more obscured in previous releases. You know he did a one-off improved orchestra several years ago after “Syro,” I believe. RDJ is an enigma, akin to a Pynchon myth-maker-prankster. Interesting guy.
