  1. Do you happen to know why this painting has been distributed over two panels? The left panel shows the slain dragon and the obvious damsel in distress and the right one shows st George in full armor Had no idea that the catholic church was also sanctifying soldiers who were obviously slaying endangered species (dragons are nowadays supposedly extinct).

    1. I don’t know why the painting is on two panels; my guess it had to do with the church it was requisitioned for–probably just a material issue. I didn’t take a picture of both panels, because, if I recall correctly, they were kind of unwieldy — they seemed almost like doors or something.
