In 1484, in a papal bull called Summis Desiderantes Affectibus (“Desiring with supreme ardor”), Pope Innocent VIII called for measures against witches in Germany. In the midst of those frenzied times, nine years later, Durer made this amazing drawing. It is on the shoulders of people like him that today we stand. And by the way, I just love her slippers.
