  1. Looking at the painting and its details raises my consciousness to a new level. Space, line, form, juxtaposition, color, and image all contribute to a dejavu all over again feeling. Complete immersion.

Like one of those summer days in a pasture when the eternity of the situation becomes as present as the buzzing of the cicadas. In the painting, with the pigeons making little loving sounds and fluttering of their wings.

There is also a story being told by the painting for those so interested. It was explained to me by the kind lady who helped me package my purchases of the painting copy and photo copies of its details, including this detail. I was much less impressed by the story being depicted as by the image itself.

Along with Venus ‘on the half-shell’ it made my trips to the National Gallery an exhilirating experience, and I lost awareness of the tourists swirling about me. I think it and the Venus and Mars paintings are greatly transcendent with spiritual experiences that they create.

It is ironic that the style of Crivelli is out of fashion, smearing as a form of ‘self-expression’ not having yet faded from the spotlight. Like the hyper-realists and photo-realists of today, the work becomes a vehicle of ‘higher’ realities. Who wants to drive a car with wobbly wheels, anyway?
