I’ve never understood the “ahead of its time” phrase… I mean, written SF was super weird in the 1960s/70s (the New Wave movement) and deployed lots of instances of body horror…. Also, Cronenberg’s own earlier films indicate a move in this direction. LikeLiked by 1 person
