Guys like Bukowski, Hunter Thompson, Hemingway, etc., etc., etc., so often are admired for all the wrong reasons. Literature needs fewer badasses — more writers.

Well put, Hank. I’m a fan of much of those writers’ writing, although their personalities often get in the way. I loved all three when I was 12, 13, 14—maybe I would’ve liked Mailer and Updike more if I’d read them then.
