Got rid of some books today—traded some in at the used bookshop I frequent, others I put in a box to take to the office to give away to colleagues. Anyway, I read these, reviewed many of them on the site, and in some cases enjoyed them—but I can’t see myself ever rereading them or returning to them for anything. And, uh, I hated some of them too.
Oh my! I feel the same way that you do about this pile of books. There are a couple of stinkers in here!
I am big on keeping my books to a number that will fit on my book shelves. I too can’t see keeping a book I don’t want to re-read. Right now I am having a big re-read festival! Some books are now ready to leave after the re-read and a very few are still going to have to stay on my limited (but ample) bookshelf space. The re-read is a nice parting point – I liked it, kept it, now I have re-read it and it can go (most likely) or stay.
Upon the re-read I often don’t feel exactly the same way about a book. May have loved it the first time around and like it now – may have liked it and now love it. I haven’t hated anything upon re-read. This all is likely TMI about my books and reading etc. But my point with a very round about way of saying it is – it is nice to get to the re-read!
