I saw this film for the first time not too long ago and it is probably now my favorite Bergman film.
Both of the characters are so fully realized and fascinating and one doesn’t even talk for most of the movie (or does she?!?!?). The use of the camera is so fresh and modern that it almost feels like someone is trying to trick you (“There is no way this movie was made in the 70s!”)
I am pretty sure both David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive and Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist were lifted whole cloth from this flick.
