The Dangerous Visions! That two-volume anthology twisted my 14-year-old self so perfectly I never returned to my original shape. And Ellison himself had quite a run between the mid-1960s and the mid-1970s; his “Deathbird Stories” was, in some respects, one of the pinnacles of the postmodern project. And one of his stories in the DV collection, “Prowler in the City of the Edge of the World,” is a bona fide mind-blower. Ye Godz: when did Lit become so… *domesticated*?
