Any idea on the date? And what happened in Mexico City? I was wondering if he was referring to the Kennedy assassination… I believe he was there when it happened.

He was in Mexico City at the same time as Oswald. People have theorized Pynchon might have run into Oswald (ridden in a bus to or from Mexico City w/ him, etc.), but it’s all theorized hyperbole and overlapped coincidence.

I’ve tried to track down the date/more info, but the original poster who photographed the letters doesn’t offer context. If anyone lives in/near Austin and wants to go the Harry Ransom Center though…
