A wonderful movie.

After this movie Antonioni seemed to fade to white out. Rumor in the lobby was that he disappeared into his own movie. GReat soundtrack! Even Roscoe Holcomb is in there. I wonder what the movie will be like after all these years. For me it marked the beginning of an ending of the great years of European cinema. Going to watch movie now…

Except for the last six minutes of apocalyptic fun, I find this entire movie completely tone deaf and silly.

Maybe that was the Point of the film. ? Have you seen L’Aventura? An even more minimalist story. The late 60’s proved to be pointless, too, considering the brave new world and home grown fascism that came afterwards. Antonioni’s films seemed to have progressively disappearing scripts. It was time for America’s cultural taste to change from subtlety to over-stimulated orgy, anyway. I was disappointed in the film at the time, and having only watched part of it today, so far, it seems a charming period piece, and brings nostalgia forth about the hopes and ideals for a civilization that chose decadence instead.
