Thank you for sharing this. I really should just read more Vollmann. Everything I’ve read of/about/by him just makes me want to read more of him.

Butterfly Stories is an accessible starting place, as is Rainbow Stories. I also loved The Ice-Shirt. There’s a great collection of his stuff called Expelled from Eden, which is a fantastic overview/nice selections.
I’m currently reading his big novel Europe Central—third attempt, but finally made a dent into it.

Just scratching the surface of what Vollmann offers. Read Afghanistan Picture Show, Into The Forbidden Zone and forays into The Rifles, Whores For Gloria, and The Atlas. I think the more you read, all roads will lead to Vollmann. Definitely the writer of the moment.
Adds a humanist ‘spirituality’ to the sometimes purely cerebral life of books and reading. Hope I’m making sense here.
